BLM Photo Shoot

We are in the middle of the most important movement of our country - probably our lifetime. On this Independence Day, we need to ensure that all people are free from hate and oppression. Did a photo shoot for Black Lives Matter with model Candice Callins this weekend in Hollywood, California. I also attended my first Black Lives Matter protest yesterday in Tujunga, California. It was amazing to be there with everyone. Nobody's free until we're all freeFannie Lou Hamer

Black Lives Matter

On July 3, 2020 I attended by first protest for Black Lives Matter. I would not consider myself a photo journalist but my friend Candice Callins asked me to come and I wanted to be a part of something that was historical - as this issue is one of the biggest movements of 2020 - if not in my lifetime. There were some anti-protesters, naturally, who just drive by several times waving American flags and yelling derogatory slang at the crowd but overall it was amazing to see how the majority of people be supportive. It was amazing to see so many white and latino people among the crowd as well. Regardless of what people think - there is definitely a shift in the view of Black Americans in this country...and as we head into Independence day tomorrow here in the Unites States it will be gr...

Lighthouses of Los Angeles

Today I decided to escape quarantine and take a nice day trip to view a couple of the lighthouses we have here in the city of Los Angeles. I love light houses and I have been wanting to photograph one for a while now. So I was excited that there were two really close to one another. Sadly the first lighthouse - The Los Angeles Harbor Lighthouse was a bit too far from where I was at [since it sits at the end of a long jetty] and I do not have the right telephoto lens yet in which to photograph it. So I sat enjoying the beautiful waves crash against the rocks. It was nice to have time to self reflect. After the first lighthouse I took a drive around San Pedro - just turning down streets, seeing what I could find. It was so quiet. Since it is an industrial area, and it was a we...

One of my goals for 2020 was to get better at my photography.  I have done 3 photo shoots so far this year and I already have several more in the works; so I thought it best to create a portfolio page for my photography [and subsequently each photo shoot as a sub page under photography - so please check those out.] Check out my portfolio here: Michael Coulombe Portfolio

El Cortez Hotel and Casino

At the beginning of the year [2020] I took up photography as a hobby - since I travel so much for work. In January I took a trip to Vegas and took some pictures while I was there. Well the El Cortez Hotel and Casino used one of my pictures for their Instagram page to promote this 3-day weekend [President's Weekend.] What a nice and lovely surprise!

Since I travel so much for pleasure and for work, I decided that for 2020 I wanted to invest in a camera. I am not looking to become a professional photographer - it is definitely just a hobby. My goal is just to take better pictures when I travel. To help gather feedback I created both an Instagram and Pinterest page. Please follow and help me become a better photographer! Wayfarers Chapel

Today, in celebration of Earth Day, the Wayfarers Chapel in Palos Verdes had their second annual art show and poetry reading called 'Art by the Sea with Poetic Expression'. Yours truly was a feature poet invited to read. I haven't been an invited poet in over 15 years (if not more.) Attending today felt like coming out of retirement - and I am grateful for my friend Georgia Washington for asking me to be a part of the event. The weather today was a wonderful 72 degrees with a slight breeze as we saw Catalina Island hiding out in the distant haze. The waves crashed towards as we stood up over the high cliff. It was an amazing inspiring day and I was grateful to be a part of the festivities today! Also after the reading today I have decided to move forward and being writing my second book. I...
