I’m Not Perfect – BTS

Did an awesome photo shoot with my homegirl Candice Callins yesterday. This is our third photoshoot so far, starting with the one we did earlier this year when I first bought my camera. Candice was the FIRST person I photographed. I wanted to learn how to use my camera and she allowed me to do a photoshoot. I was so nervous - but was also excited. This was something new to me. And I think the photos turned out great. We did a fitness shoot....and even though I LOVE the photos, I look back on them now and see how much I have improved. Quarantining during the pandemic has kept us all mostly isolated. So to break the monotony I took photos. I could walk around my neighborhood and take photos - so it was a great way to practice and hone my skills! Check out the BTS video below as wel...

Yacht in Los Angeles Harbor

During these unprecedented times, it is definitely hard to stay focused and sane. The weather is getting warmer - much warmer! - and it's hard to stay indoors. Our natural reaction then would be to flock to such places as the beach...or a park...or a pool...BUT then we risk of contracting the Corona virus OR run the risk of infecting others. Also, many folks, like myself, are not working that much and our stimulus has run out. So it is no wonder that folks are restless, scared, or just numb now to everything. I know that I am. Recently I have felt more isolated and alone. I do visit people but not as often as I used to - and definitely very socially distanced. I miss working, especially when my bills are due! And I miss traveling! Like...a lot! So when my friend texted me the ot...

BLM Photo Shoot

We are in the middle of the most important movement of our country - probably our lifetime. On this Independence Day, we need to ensure that all people are free from hate and oppression. Did a photo shoot for Black Lives Matter with model Candice Callins this weekend in Hollywood, California. I also attended my first Black Lives Matter protest yesterday in Tujunga, California. It was amazing to be there with everyone. Nobody's free until we're all freeFannie Lou Hamer

Black Lives Matter

On July 3, 2020 I attended by first protest for Black Lives Matter. I would not consider myself a photo journalist but my friend Candice Callins asked me to come and I wanted to be a part of something that was historical - as this issue is one of the biggest movements of 2020 - if not in my lifetime. There were some anti-protesters, naturally, who just drive by several times waving American flags and yelling derogatory slang at the crowd but overall it was amazing to see how the majority of people be supportive. It was amazing to see so many white and latino people among the crowd as well. Regardless of what people think - there is definitely a shift in the view of Black Americans in this country...and as we head into Independence day tomorrow here in the Unites States it will be gr...

Los Angeles Arboretum

So as the shelter-at -home order in Los Angeles slowly begins to lift, there are still places that are still not open; and some places are open but at half capacity. We have been on lock down for approximately nine weeks. It has been a LONG two months. [Some states have only been on a lock down for a few weeks and I know a few states never went on lock down - which is crazy to me, to think about.] After May 15th (our initial reopen date here in LA) parks and beaches have reopened - again at half capacity. I have been keeping creatively busy here at home. I have been using writing as a way to stay sane.....BUT the weather is finally nice in Los Angeles, since we had so much rain and gloomy weather when the quarantine first started, and now Angelinos are starting to venture o...

Lighthouses of Los Angeles

Today I decided to escape quarantine and take a nice day trip to view a couple of the lighthouses we have here in the city of Los Angeles. I love light houses and I have been wanting to photograph one for a while now. So I was excited that there were two really close to one another. Sadly the first lighthouse - The Los Angeles Harbor Lighthouse was a bit too far from where I was at [since it sits at the end of a long jetty] and I do not have the right telephoto lens yet in which to photograph it. So I sat enjoying the beautiful waves crash against the rocks. It was nice to have time to self reflect. After the first lighthouse I took a drive around San Pedro - just turning down streets, seeing what I could find. It was so quiet. Since it is an industrial area, and it was ...

One of my goals for 2020 was to get better at my photography.  I have done 3 photo shoots so far this year and I already have several more in the works; so I thought it best to create a portfolio page for my photography [and subsequently each photo shoot as a sub page under photography - so please check those out.] Check out my portfolio here: Michael Coulombe Portfolio

El Cortez Hotel and Casino

At the beginning of the year [2020] I took up photography as a hobby - since I travel so much for work. In January I took a trip to Vegas and took some pictures while I was there. Well the El Cortez Hotel and Casino used one of my pictures for their Instagram page to promote this 3-day weekend [President's Weekend.] What a nice and lovely surprise!

Since I travel so much for pleasure and for work, I decided that for 2020 I wanted to invest in a camera. I am not looking to become a professional photographer - it is definitely just a hobby. My goal is just to take better pictures when I travel. To help gather feedback I created both an Instagram and Pinterest page. Please follow and help me become a better photographer!
